Just a week before registration for my charcoal portrait class The Many Faces of Charcoal opens!

In this class we’re going to draw expressive faces using a variety of charcoal drawing techniques. An in-depth and fun exploration of this fantastic, versatile drawing medium!

And I’m excited to announce that I’m going to give away one free spot!

This is the only live online session of this class planned for 2020, so don’t miss out! 🙂

Continue reading below to find out more about this class and how you can enter the giveaway.

About this class

The Many Faces of Charcoal is an online charcoal portrait course which runs for six weeks.

Each week we’ll start with an exercise to get familiar with the supplies and loosen up a little. Then we’ll do a full, in-dept project in which we’re going to create a charcoal portrait from start to finish. Every project will be different, using different techniques or styles. I will show and tell you exactly what I do and why I do it, so you can learn & practice the techniques and implement them in the future in your own style.

This is a ‘live online class’, which means that the class opens at a particular date and we will start with all the students at this date. However, no worries if you can’t keep up with the class schedule: you can do all the lessons in your own pace. You get lifetime access to the course website and all videos can be downloaded, so you can keep them forever.

  1. Thanks for the opportunity to win a spot, Juna! Your classes are always amazing, and you’re a great teacher. I would love to take this journey with you. 🙂

  2. I love your style! I haven’t taken her use charcoal since college which is over 40 years ago. Would love to get back into it with you

  3. Shared on Facebook – I would love to win a spot in this class for so many reasons- to learn new techniques, to learn a new medium, to be able to do what I love and enjoy. There is so much more that I couldn’t say on social media as to why I would be thankful to win, as an unpaid caregiver for my father I have to be mindful in what I say or it causes an uproar. I almost didn’t enter because I will be hearing how selfish I am for wanting to learn and do something for me.

  4. Such a lovely idea to try something completely new after years of trying to sketch portraits of family and friends but not knowing how to ‘finish’ them properly . It’s great to have a chance to win something like this and to end up with a portrait in which I’ll learn how to incorporate finer details .. Thankyou 🙂

  5. I’ve always truly adored your portraits! They are so soft and ethereal and moving. I would love love love to win a chance to take your class!!

  6. I’ve always been fascinated by portraits. It’s challenging to get the right expression on paper. I feel charcoal is the right medium to explore faces but I am always hesitant in using it because it gets messy when I use it. With proper instruction, I might find my way in it. I’m willing to explore new ways.

I shared this give away on my facebook page.

  7. I love charcoal. I would love to join – though may have to spread taking the lessons over a longer period. Shared on twitter.
Het lijkt mij heel leuk om mee te doen. Gedeeld op Twitter.

  8. Charcoal is highly underrated. Faces/ portraits are the ultimate gift of artistic ability. I would like to improve that skill.

  9. I am an energy artist ( hobby ) I love to draw Spirit guides in pastels . I would love to share this more but lack the confidence to put my art out there . The universe has now pushed me out of work with a rare chronic neurological illness .It’s now time for me to spend on what I’m meant to be doing? Lol Thank you for giving someone this opportunity , blessings to you 🤗

  10. Hi,

  26. Hi Juna…I just shared to the public through your Facebook. I hope that was okay. Loved watching your mini demo. I haven’t used Charcoal for many years and day before yesterday I decided to do a portrait and I was very pleased. Thanks to you and your mini demo, I now have another medium I love to use. I sure hope I get a free spot in your course as art is a huge passion and it is an amazing time to lose yourself for a few hours, forget the cares of the world. Just over the past year or so, I have this burning desire to do portraits; doesn’t matter if it is human or animal but I really need some further direction and a better understanding of Charcoal and how to use it to my benefit. Thank you so much and whoever wins the free spot, congratulations and have a blast learning.

  33. Hi Juna
I shared your fabulous site on my Facebook page and why I would love the opportunity to participate in your ‘Many faces of charcoal’ class. I have studied Design and animation but really always wanted to do fine art/portraiture. I have collected plenty of books of portraiture and the use of Charcoal but have been too nervous to start because I have not drawn properly for years. After getting my degree I found it difficult finding a job so now I work as a receptionist / administrator and do graphic design in my spare time. I really feel that doing your class would help me back on the road of creativity and where I feel I truely belong. Many thanks Helena from NZ

  34. I have just competed 4 sessions with a live model using charcoals and I’m hooked, this online course is now a must for me as I can continue my passion of creating portraits with charcoal whilst working from my own studio space… Thank you
